The Meeting and Professional Development Committees, were both in high spirit as they invited noted Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Director of Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The recent events that happened in Japan has raised our consciousness devote more time to environmental safety and security and also learn the basic nuances of being part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Director Solidum made a very clear illustration and presentation on his knowledge on earthquakes, fault lines and trenches, and gave basic tips on what to do during a calamity.
The afternoon technical session covered two areas: Topic on Transfer Pricing which has become increasingly important to the accounts due to various regulations and memoranda issued by BIR. This was discussed by Atty. Reynante M. Marcelo, Partner from SGV. Later, a very hot topic on Effective Tax Management and how accountants can better guide their employers was delivered by Atty. Victorino Mamalateo, Managing Partner of VC Mamalateo & Partners. He went on to provide insights and tips on tax planning and avoidance. In this forum, a lot of members raised various concerns and scenarios in dealing with the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
