On August 15, 2025, the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Commerce and Industry (ACPACI) paid a courtesy visit to the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s National Office, where they were warmly welcomed by Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. The meeting served as a meaningful platform to strengthen collaboration between the accounting profession and the Bureau, paving the way for more efficient tax administration and compliance in the country.

Leading the delegation was ACPACI Vice President for Partnership with Regulators Meljorie Cruz, who expressed the association’s gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the Commissioner. She introduced the members of the Board of Directors and representatives in attendance, setting the tone for a constructive and forward-looking discussion. Executive Vice President Marvin Madrigalejo shared ACPACI’s vision and mission, which focused on elevating professional standards and fortifying the role of CPAs in commerce and industry nationwide.

The group highlighted the association’s notable contributions, including nationwide training programs for CPAs, strong advocacy for ethical and compliant practices, and active participation in the BIR’s PMSG Technical Working Group.

Past President Atty. Walter Abela Jr., Vice President for Operations Cecille Carandang, and Secretary Elaine De Guzman provided first-hand insights from private sector clients. They raised key concerns, while also recognizing the Bureau’s positive reforms and enhanced responsiveness to taxpayers. Their message was clear: continuous dialogue and partnership are essential for sustained progress.

In a gesture of appreciation, National President Atty. Aristeo Cruz presented Commissioner Lumagui with a plaque honoring his leadership and reform initiatives. The award symbolized ACPACI’s support for the Bureau’s ongoing efforts toward a transparent, efficient, and service-oriented tax system.

Also in attendance were Chairperson for Partnership with Regulators Atty. Tristan Lopez and Chairperson for Membership Relations Rose Ann Valix, further reinforcing ACPACI’s commitment to engagement with regulatory partners.

The meeting concluded on a note of optimism signaling not just a moment of courtesy, but a renewed alliance between ACPACI and the BIR, united in their shared mission to build a compliant, ethical, and empowered business community.
